If you are travelling to the EU, EEA or Switzerland from 1 January 2021, you will need to ensure that your passport:

• has at least 6 months left on it

• was issued less than 9 years and 6 months ago

These rules do not apply for travel to Ireland. You can continue to use your passport as long as it’s valid for the length of your stay.

Check your passport details to see if you need to renew before travelling.

If your passport is burgundy or has ‘European Union’ on the cover, you can still use it as long as it has enough time left on it.
